The procedure used for observing macro vertebrates and arboreal animals is very similar to that of the point count sampling method utilised for avian fauna (therefore follow the procedure as set out in chapter 1). To observe macro vertebrates, the exact same procedure and points should be used as with the avian fauna survey. Utilise the field data sheet to record information as it is observed. Remember to record all terrestrial macro vertebrates, be they reptile or mammal.
To record arboreal animals, a slightly different approach is required. The team must still conduct the survey within 25 meters of either side of the transect, however will move from tree to tree to observe animals as they are discovered. The main point to remember is to remain as a group and move steadily and quietly among trees. Remember to appoint a scribe and in this case time limits do not need to be adhered to.
